BMX OVERVIEW
My family and I have been involved in BMX Bicycle Racing
since 1987. Included in those years are countless hours of volunteer work by
myself, my wife, and both of our children, who grew up volunteering as well as
competing in BMX. Our children, Laura and Gary both still compete in the sport
as well as our Son-in-law, John. We have been involved in all facets of racing,
on the local, state, national and international levels.
Having been involved with NBL BMX for over 20 years, I have
touched most aspects of the sport. With
my experience and knowledge, I will be an asset to the NBL Board of Directors.
What I bring to the Board is experience, creditability,
enthusiasm, and integrity, and I would consider it an honor to be
nominated. Since my family is also
involved with NBL BMX, They share the same passion that I do for the
sport.
I started my BMX career by volunteering at our local
track. First working on the track, with
shovel and broom in hand, then learning the many Officials’ positions, starting
with Stager, Starter, Corner Marshal, Scorer and Referee and working my way up
the ladder to become Florida BMX State President, a position I have held for
the last ten years. In that time frame, Florida NBL has hosted some of the
largest events in the state history, as well as experienced tremendous
growth. I am also a USA Cycling
National Commissaire as well as a UCI International Commissaire.
There are many things I would like to accomplish, but most
important, at this time, is to help make a smooth transition with our new
leadership, and also continue to help BMX grow from the ground up, keeping our
racing exciting and making sure we have the best BMX anywhere.
Respectfully submitted

I would be honored to be part of the NBL board. I feel that I can offer a great deal to the
NBL BMX Program and be helpful in making the NBL a better place through my
experience in the industry.
I have been involved in BMX for over 25 years and have established
deep roots in BMX racing and the Bicycle industry. I discovered the sport of
BMX at age 12 and have direct experience with all levels of the sport. I
started as a fan and then went on to be an amateur racer, which I still
participate in today. During college I
spent my summers working part time for a small BMX company and realized this
was going to be my career.
After college while contributing to BMX PLUS and BMX Today
by writing race stories I was hired to work at GT BMX where I worked in customer
service and marketing and then became the team manager. From this I went on to
run my own BMX marketing firm and I currently oversee marketing duties for one
of the biggest movers in BMX today, VSI Products - makers of Intense BMX, THE
Products, SINZ Racing, Intense Tyres, and Vigor. I love and live BMX every day
of my life and this past year was by far the most fun and inspiring. I was able
to attend the BMX race at the Olympic Games in Beijing. It was a proud moment to see our
sport at the Olympics!
I have been a licensed member of the NBL since 1982 and I
have had the privilege to be involved with BMX racing at its highest as well as
working through its rocky times. With my experience in BMX I feel I can offer some
fresh ideas, work on new ways to help grow BMX and be able to relate to all who
participate in the sport we all love.
Also, I have had extensive dealings with Pro and Amateur
riders, as well as the inner workings of the ABA, NBL and UCI. I also interact with many
companies within the industry and I feel I have a solid understanding of all
sides of BMX racing.
The reason I would like to sit on the board of the NBL is to
keep moving the sport of BMX racing in the right direction, with input for
riders, the industry, and current leaders in BMX. I hope to offer new ways to elevate the sport
to increase membership and I feel my background in marketing can help with
these endeavors. These are some of the principles that I would like to bring to
the NBL if elected to the Board.
I would appreciate the opportunity to serve the NBL BMX
community by being a board member, and will continue to do my best to keep BMX
racing heading in the right direction.
Sincerely,
Shayne Robinson
I have a well rounded skill
portfolio, and excel in customer service, multi-tasking and working
independently with little or no supervision. My organizational and time
management skills have enabled me to be successful in all aspects of
business. I have been able to enhance
and utilize these skills in commercial settings and community/volunteer work
for the city and for the National Bicycle League based in Columbus, Ohio.

BMX experience detailed.:
My husband and son started racing
in 2002. Gradually I started to
volunteer at a local level at the Peachtree City BMX track. I have been President of the PTCBMX Parents
Association since 2003 and will continue through 2009. I am the liaison between the city and our
sport, attending all sports board meetings and making presentations to city
council and the recreation commission on a yearly basis.
I have been the clerk of course
since 2004 and will continue through the 2009 season. I have also been responsible for recruiting
and training all new volunteers to the track in all aspects of racing. I am
very active in all details of running a race on race day with my husband.
I have been Georgia State
Commissioner since 2006 and will continue through 2009 season. Our State has
almost doubled in size for state racing turnouts and I have been successful in
having Monster Energy and Kovachi Wheels
as our State Sponsors for 2008.
Currently I am in negotiation with Atlanta Motor Speedway for the 2009
team racing season. Monster Energy will continue to support the 2009 season with
a sponsorship worth $14000 in product.
Team racing has grown from 4 teams to a successful 10 team entry for
2008.
2008 my husband and I ran the SE
Regional series for the NBL. We will be repeating this for 2009. On a national
level I volunteer at each race I attend and am usually found in staging, having
fun! Finally I bought myself a cruiser and started racing locally in 2005.
Currently #2 for 45 and over Ladies’ Cruiser .
I believe that my past experience in
the business environment will serve me well as a board director. I am able to bring people together who have
differing views and reach a successful result. My customer service skills are
outstanding and being that BMXers are our customers, I will always deal with
compliments and complaints with the same positive attitude that I bring to
racing. “The impossible I can do, miracles take a little longer”. My involvement in all levels of racing, from
a local level, state level, regional level and racing the national level gives
me a unique insight into challenges that face volunteers and racers alike. I am
a leader and not a follower, and always make sure to follow through with
suggestions, comments and projects.
I would love to be part of the
future growth of BMX in this country and can contribute substantially to making
it even more exciting and vibrant of a sport for the families that support us.
My enthusiasm and can do attitude would be a breath of fresh air.
Thank you for considering my
application for the above position. I
look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Robert Wiginton
