In 1977, she took her 7-year-old son to his first BMX race and she was immediately hooked. It wasn’t long until she was so involved she was writing articles for Bob Osborne’s magazine – Bicycle Motocross Action.
She was elected secretary for her state in 1984 and later became the state treasurer and clerk. She was a part of the ”ladies” group that made the state program of California one of the best ever. In 1987, she was elected to the NBL board.
She held a special position at the 1987 Worlds in Orlando – the water bucket girl.
She aspired to be our very own Hooter’s girl by dancing the night away at the after-Grands Pro party at the Hurstbourne.
With the desire to help the children in the west earn a numberplate without participating at the Grands, she helped create the Western Challenge Series which is today known at the Regional Series. This is also the year that she helped create the Volunteer of the Year award.
In 1993, she and Linda Dorsey were co-workers on the Road to Glory Series on ESPN. In 1995, with the passing of Bob Warnicke, she became the vice-chair of the NBL.
She invented the position of gate verifier and was the best there ever was. She became very helpful at races whether you wanted it or not. At a Regional event, she tried to assist the clerk by separating the 6 part moto sheets, that should have been separted and stacked, not piled on the floor and in the garbage can – it looked like too many to her! The posting sheets needed to be fished out of the garbage.
For over 20 years, she attended the Florida State Championship weekend and she attended ALL west coast State, Regional and National events.
In 2001, she was proudly presented the NBL “Volunteer of the Year” award.
In 2009, she stepped aside from her position as vice-chair. She continues to this day to volunteer at State and National races.
