Quick facts on the merger of the NBL and the ABA

Quick facts on the merger of the NBL and the ABA

What happened, why the merger?

On Saturday, June 18, 2011, the NBL Board of Directors approved the asset purchase of the NBL by the ABA.  This was done to advance the sport of BMX and ensure the continued operation of existing NBL tracks.  All tracks will now operate under the name of USA BMX.

How does the merger affect my membership?

All valid NBL memberships (annual, monthly, and 30-day) will be converted to USA BMX memberships for both class and cruiser effective immediately.  These memberships will be valid through December 31, 2011, and can be facilitated by simply completing the USA BMX membership form.

Why do I need to complete another membership form?

We know this is a hassle and apologize.  Like you, we have been signing too much lately.  However, this is a necessity in order to ensure a smooth transition of your information and to convert all existing NBL members to a USA BMX membership.  In the future, all riders will have a USA BMX membership that will be utilized at what are currently NBL and ABA tracks.

Can I still race at my local NBL track?

Yes, you can still race at any of the 100 NBL tracks around the United States.  In addition, you can now race at any of the 250 + ABA tracks in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

What about my NBL Points?

For the 2011 NBL racing season, there will be no changes in the points structure.  You will still race for L.E.A.P., Challenger, and National points.

Are there any changes in the Schedule?

All local programs will continue to operate as they have in the past in regards to race schedules.  These schedules are at the discretion of each individual track and you will need to contact the local track or visit their website for information.  All challenger and national series races will continue as scheduled.

What are the costs to race?

Local tracks will charge a fee established by the track.  This fee will vary from track to track.  Challenger and National series races will operate with the following race fees:

NBL National Championship Series per entry:

Pre-registration: $45.00                                Post registration: $50.00               Open: $35.00

NBL Challenge Championship Series per entry (Only one left – July 2 – 3, Livermore, CA):

Pre-Registration: $35.00               Post-Registration: $40.00             Open: $25.00

NBL Challenge Championship Series Finals per entry (July 23rd):

Pre-Registration: $40.00               Post-Registration: $45.00             Open: $35.00

Note Challenge Championship Series Finals Weekend: Friday Pre-Race, Saturday Challenge Championship Series Finals, Sunday National (with National entry fees as listed above)

What happened to the all-you-can- race plan and what about the money I paid?

For those members that have signed up for all-you-can-race, USA BMX vouchers will be issued for any unrealized value remaining. These vouchers will be similar to NBL Bucks but they can be redeemed for local, Challenger, and National event registration, and are non-transferable.  We are in the process of calculating all the entries for members and members can expect to have these vouchers within the next three weeks.

What are the rule changes now that we are under USA BMX?

For the remainder of the 2011 NBL season all NBL races will be utilizing existing rules.  You should see no changes for the remainder of the season.

What if I have more questions?
