R.I.P. Kyle Weisenberger
It is with great regret that the NBL announces the passing of longtime NBL member, Kyle Weisenberger. Kyle was involved in a car accident on Thanksgiving and passed away yesterday, November 30th, at the age of 24 after fighting for his life in a Cincinnati-area hospital.
Kyle was a NBL member since 1997 and a Derby City BMX local in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the fastest local for several years and mentored many young kids on the track. He was a very talented rider and raced A Pro until recently. His personality, combined with his style and skill made him a favorite rider for anyone who watched him race or banged bars with him. His smile and attitude will certainly be missed by anyone who ever met him. He was truly one-of-a-kind.
Our sincerest condolences to his family.
UPDATE (12/2/09): Visitation hours for Kyle will be Friday from 4-9pm at the Linneman Funeral Home (1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005). His funeral service will be 10am on Saturday morning at St. Agnes Church (1680 Dixie Highway, Fort Wright, KY 41011). Kyle will be wearing his Battle BMX jersey and everyone is encouraged to wear their BMX jerseys in support.
Kyle was an organ donor and his heart has been donated to a 39-year-old man, while his pancreas and kidneys were donated to a local woman. Even in tragedy, there are still blessings.
The Kyle Weisenberger Memorial Fund is being set up in his honor. Please make checks out to “Kyle Weisenberger Memorial Fund” and send them to the NBL office (3958 Brown Park Drive, Suite D, Hilliard, OH 43026), c/o Kyle Weisenberger Memorial Fund.
Kyle’s father will also be setting up an account with his bank for online donations. The funds will be used for some BMX-related endeavor to be determined by the family. BMX was Kyle’s true passion and love and any funds collected will be put back into the sport to honor him.
More information will be posted as we receive it.
