Spencer Cole

7 EXPERT — BEAVERCREEK, OHIO

Birthday: 10/16/2001

Calm, cool, and collected. That’s how Spencer has won the Grands the past two years. He can afford to be confident with his skills on the track. Watch out for the new DK jersey in 2010!

Nickname: Coletrain

Team: I just got picked up by DK Bicycles.

What is your local track and how often do you ride there? My local track is Cindy Verburg/Gateway, Delco and Dayton Indoor.  I try to practice twice a week and more if my parents can get me out there.

How long have you been racing? I’ve been racing for two years and seven months.

What are your accomplishments so far in BMX?  My accomplisments in BMX so far would be: National #1 for the NBL for both 6 Novice and 7 Expert, Regional #1 for the NBL for 6 Novice, and State champion for both NBL and ABA for 6 Novice/Expert.

What got you interested in BMX in the beginning? My buddy, Ryan, and I went to Dayton Indoor to watch and we have been racing ever since.

What about the sport has kept you interested and made you want to continue? I like competing, making new friends, and traveling to different tracks.

On the track, what parts of racing have come naturally so far and what parts do you think you need the most work on? The parts that come naturally are jumping and manualing. The things I need to work on the most would probably be knowing and defending my lines.

What challenges have you encountered so far in your racing and how did you overcome them? The challenges that I have encountered in BMX would probably be that you cannot win all of the time and when you get second or third you know you just have to work harder for your next race.

Have you BROUGHT your friends out to the track? What did they think? I brought a couple friends out to the track and they think it is the coolest thing in the world!

Do you play any other sports? The other sport I play is soccer and I love to play my XBox, XBox 360, and DS.

Who are some people you look up to and why? I look up to my Dad because he is in the military (officially retired on September 1, 2009), yeah!

What is the best advice you’ve received since you started racing? The best advice I received in BMX racing so far would be to drive your hips into your handle bars on the gate. Thanks John and Doc for all your help!

What’s hanging on your bedroom wall?  My National, State and Regional plates and Lego Star Wars ships.

Is there anything specific you try to eat before or during the weekend of a race?

I love to eat Skyline Chili before a race.

If I gave you $100 right now, what would you buy with it?  If I had a $100 right now, I would buy a big Lego Stars Wars ship!

What is something you’ve done that you’d never want to do again? Something that I have done that I never want to do again is loop out, ouch!

What are your short-term and long-term goals in BMX?  My short-term goal would be to win the Christmas Classic as a young 8 Expert. My long-term goal is to be in the Olympics someday.

Thanks? My family for supporting me, especially my Mom, Dad and sister, Saige for sitting through weekends of races. Brad, Joe at VBS/KENDA, Ambiance, Precision Auto Sports, EVS, Sanderson Ins., DJ JON EG Entertainment, Randy and Hoover at Gateway, Bob, Anna and Shaggy at Dayton Indoor. Also, my brand new sponsors, DK Bicycles, Maxxis, and Troy Lee!
